Why
Land?
The
population of England has been growing for many years, especially in
the south east. There's also a change in the nature of households with
smaller families and more single occupancy. The Housing Minister,
Yvette Cooper MP, expresses this simply . . .
"The population is growing, the economy is growing, the demand for new
workers is growing and household formation is changing with an aging
society and family break up. The demand for housing is increasing."
The result is an imbalance of supply vs. demand in the land holders'
favour. What shape and form that housing takes is irrelevant to land
owners. Whether executive houses, or affordable flats for key workers,
land is needed for new homes. There is an ever increasing demand as
stated by the UK government for the need of an additional 3 million new
homes over the next decade. This figure has been revised up many times
over and that trend is extremely likely to continue.
